Dear Blackhawk Families:
Welcome to the start of the 2020-2021 school year! The start of a new school year is always an exciting time, not only for students but for families and our staff as well. In this spirit, it is my pleasure to welcome the students, families, and staff of the Blackhawk Nation back to our wonderful school district!
Each school year brings new obstacles and rewards. Over the last five months we have worked purposefully and intelligently through very complicated issues, doing our best to use a common sense approach to the development of our return to school plan. Keeping our Blackhawk students, staff, and families as safe as possible has been our top priority.
As you know, we have decided to offer a hybrid learning model for the first nine weeks of school. We are planning on taking our virtual education to a new level. Working together as an educational community, I know that we can accomplish this and so much more!
As a leader, during these challenging times, making hard decisions can be weighty and unpopular. Please know, my top priority, along with the Board of Education, is to take care of the needs of our students, faculty, staff, and community. I ask you to join me in making this your number one priority as well. With the understanding that there is a strong possibility that there could be intermittent periods of full virtual learning based on guidance from the Illinois Health Department if there are confirmed cases of COVID-19 among staff or students, our hybrid learning model allows for this shift in instructional delivery.
In closing, I am thankful for all our Blackhawk Families’ patience and understanding during these complicated times. Even if you do not agree with every point in our return to school plan, I hope you will know that we care deeply about our students and that we will continue to work hard to do what is best for them. Working together, we can continue to improve our service to our students and families of our community.
Best wishes for a successful new year of learning in 2020-2021!
